Prepare Yourself Mentally

Must Read

Massage of shoulder

.Starting a business can be overwhelming at times. You’ll experience new highs, such as the thrill of becoming your own boss and seeing something you created gain acceptance in the marketplace and appreciated by your customers.

But then again, the risks can be immense, and a wrong move can set you back tremendously even leading to financial and emotional ruin. It is important when starting a business to prepare yourself mentally to all these ups and downs, and the challenges that you will meet at every corner.

Author Linda J. Lord in the article “How Prepared Are You to Run a Business?”  gives suggestions on what entrepreneurs can do when things go wrong and it starts to get overwhelming:

  • Breathe.
  • Step back and gain some perspective.
  • Look at the big picture.
  • Identify what’s working and what’s not.
  • Isolate what isn’t working; analyze data to understand what’s going on.
  • Make one adjustment at a time and track the results before you change the next thing.
  • Focus on the one thing that will have the greatest single impact then move on from there.

She also advises entrepreneurs to:

Take care of yourselves. Learn to put yourself high on the list of people you love. Then show yourself the same amount of compassion you show others and have realistic expectations of yourself. Be patient and forgiving. You will make mistakes. You will get tired. You will say and do things that don’t show your best self, learn from those moments and move on.
